Fourth National Bioethics Conference, 2012

Sama participated in the fourth National Bioethics Conference, which was held in Hyderabad at the University of Hyderabad campus from December 6th to 8th, 2012. The Forum for Medical Ethics Society (FMES), Mumbai, the University of Hyderabad, and the Council for Social Development (CSD), Hyderabad were co-organisers of this conference. The theme of NBC 4 was ‘Ethical and Regulatory Challenges in Health Research’ with focus on specific aspects of health research ethics, interdisciplinary approaches to ethics; clinical trials; and research regulation laws and ethics.

At the conference, Sama organised a workshop ‘Making the voices count: Participants’ Rights and Regulation of Clinical Trials in India’. Ms. Sarojini N and Ms. Anjali Shenoi from Sama facilitated this workshop along with Mr. Patrick Durisch, the Berne Declaration. Sarojini N. also co-chaired the session on ‘Ethics in Context’ with Prof. Lakshmi Lingam. The conference sought to bring together different key constituencies/stakeholders to share their diverse perspectives in the conference.
