Sexual and Reproductive Health

Sama believes that sexual and reproductive health and rights must be located within the perspective that recognizes social determinants of health and universal health entitlements. Sama’s initiative on Enhancing Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) through health system is drawn from its extensive experience in health and gender related advocacy and training.

On this issue Sama has worked on policy level advocacy with states like Jharkhand, Odisha, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh on the implementation of National programmes- ARSH strategy launched in 2006 under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), and RKSK (Rashtriya Kishor Swasthya Karyakram) in 2014, which provides the framework for the adolescent sexual and reproductive health services and recognizes adolescents as a group with special and distinct needs beyond maternal health. Capacity building of community based organisations is a part of strengthening the accountability mechanism between the community and the state machinery.
