Sama Resource Group for Women and Health is organising a talk on – ‘Working hope: How ASHAs mediate between their communities and the health system‘ on the 24th of March, 2023 at 5pm IST.

Guest speaker-Vrinda Marwah

Our speaker, Vrinda Marwah is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of South Florida. She received her PhD in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin in 2021, before which she worked in India with Sama and CREA. 

Based on her ethnographic fieldwork in Punjab’s Muktar district in 2018-2019, and 80 interviews with ASHAs and ASHA program experts, the talk will discuss the position ASHAs occupy as mediators between state and community- How do ASHAs facilitate the delivery of health services? What makes them uniquely vulnerable? And why do ASHAs’ experiences matter for health outcomes?
