Sama was invited by Mahila Jan Adhikar Samiti (MJAS) to facilitate a three-day workshop for MJAS staff at Ajmer, Rajasthan on 5 – 7 January, 2012. The objectives of this workshop were: To enhance the team’s understanding on Gender Based Violence (GBV) and its impact on children; To enable the team to relate their experiences while working with children to the impact of violence on their lives in order to work towards creating a just environment for children, especially girl children; To help the team envisage action oriented plans in their area of work in order to share their learnings from the workshop with children and adolescent groups; and To establish linkages between gender based violence and health and care of children who are neglected and deprived of their right to survival and protection.
The workshop followed MJAS’s participation in Sama’s workshop on violence as a public health issue, and sought to strengthen the organisation’s understanding and work against GBV, in the context of the health care system.
