Prayas and Human Rights Law Network (HRLN) organized a National Consultation on “Using the Law On Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights” at Global Institute of Technology, Sitapur, Jaipur from 5th-7th December and invited Sama as a panelist. A presentation was made on ‘Assisted Reproductive Technologies: Surrogacy & Its Commercialization’ along with a screening of the film “Can we See the Baby Bump, Please?”. It was followed by an interactive session around the issue of surrogacy.
The consultation was aimed to understand and build strategies to address some of the core problems around sexual and reproductive health and rights. Participants at the consultation included members of other organisations, academics and lawyers. The consultation appraised the existing policies, programmes, schemes, legislations and international obligations including the covenants and multilateral treaties pertaining to sexual and reproductive health in India. Participants shared their experience of ground realities about the implementation of various programmes and the use of laws for promotion of sexual and reproductive health rights in India.
