2006 | Sama
This report is based on the consultation organised by Sama on 16-17 June 2006 in Delhi. The consultation focussed on raising awareness about Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs) and their implications, potential drawbacks and collectively generating strategies to combat the issues surrounding ARTs.
The field of ARTs has been rapidly growing over the past decade. It is essentially unregulated and in addition, ARTs are accessible to many sections of society and are no longer an option only for the rich. There is an increasing investment being made in this largely competitive field and there is a need to look at the direction in which all of this is heading.
The sessions during the consultation discussed on the impact ARTs have on the health and lives of women especially its implications in social, ethical and physiological context; misuse of technologies and techniques and economic, legal and ethical concerns of these new technologies.
