Sama participated in a National Consultation organized by the National Commission for Women (NCW) to discuss the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) for the implementation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (PWDVA), 2005. CSS was proposed to the NCW in 2012 that would help to strengthen the implementation of the PWDVA. This scheme outlines the budget and actions needed to enforce the PWDVA, outlining among other things numbers of POs and Service Providers that are needed.
Organisations and networks engaged with these issues pointed out that even six years after its initiation, the allocation of resources needed for the operationalisation of the PWDVA continues to be abysmal. A memorandum to the Finance Ministry to increase the allocation for PWDVA with an indication of the likely budgetary needs for effective implementation of the PWDVA was also submitted.
