Sama along with Chaupal, its partner organisation in Chhattisgarh, organized a half-day consultation in collaboration with Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital on ‘Medico-legal care for survivors of Sexual Violence’ in Raipur, Chhattisgarh on August 1, 2015. The meeting aimed to discuss the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Protocols and Guidelines for medico legal care and response to sexual violence survivors and deliberate on building clarity on medico-legal provisions towards strengthening health system response to gender based violence.
The consultation meeting saw over sixty individual participants, including healthcare providers in public and private hospitals, members of the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI), representatives from state Department of Women and Child Development and other service providers. Dr. Jagadeesh N Reddy who is a forensic expert from Bangalore and has been a member of the drafting committee of the MoHFW protocols and guidelines, made a presentation and responded to the queries of the participants at this meeting.
