Building Capacities and Leadership

training-01

Our training and capacity-building initiatives are designed to strengthen women’s and young people’s (especially young women and girls) leadership in rural and peri-urban communities, as well as the capacities of community-based organisations.

Leadership building on gender, sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender-based violence, and mental health, for example, seeks to enhance knowledge access, perspectives, and analytical and advocacy capacities.

Our capacity-building initiatives include workshops, orientations, and short courses that are conducted online and in person. They cover a range of important thematic areas, including sexual and domestic violence, youth leadership and rights, sexual and reproductive health rights, maternal health, infertility, contraception and access to safe abortion, mental health and well-being, and ensuring access to medicines and healthcare services for women and other marginalised groups.

We carry out our capacity-building initiatives at multiple levels:

Capacity-building for community-based organisations and networks

These capacity-building initiatives enhance local capacities and foster leadership development to optimise a feminist understanding of health, to deepen analysis of the intersections of social, gender, and health justice. These initiatives also help to sustain local action towards improved health outcomes as well as the accountability of health institutions.

training-2

Building capacities of healthcare providers

We have been invited by many medical colleges and state health departments of several states to train medical officers, nurses, auxiliary nurse midwives (ANM), and accredited social health activists (ASHA) on issues related to gender, public health, sexual and reproductive rights (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV). We have engaged with the National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW) in developing the modules integrating gender and health at the community health centres (CHC), primary health centres (PHC), district hospitals (DH) and at the level of community health workers (CHW).

Capacity and leadership building for students and young researchers

Our capacity and leadership-building initiatives with students and young researchers seek to create a feminist and intersectional understanding of public health. These have enabled students and researchers to analyse current health policies, laws, and interventions. Our initiatives have strengthened their ability to engage with communities, amplify health concerns, and develop research on a range of critical health issues.
